Bella Gelateria Serves Up World’s Most Expensive Chocolate as a Dessert!

Today (September 13) is International Chocolate Day and Vancouver’s maestro gelatiere James Coleridge from the internationally award-winning Bella Gelateria will be serving up an exclusive gelato made with the world’s most expensive chocolate: Amedei Tuscany’s Porcelana Chocolate.

Amedei Porcelana is a 70 per cent dark chocolate from famed Italian chocolatemaker Amedei and is made from rare, white, translucent Porcelana cocoa beans native to Venezuela. As these beans are extremely rare, it is known as one of the world’s most expensive chocolate, winning numerous international awards. It has also been reported that Porcelana chocolate was used in the $1,000 Golden Opulence Sundae sold at New York’s Serendipity 3 restaurant as referenced in the Guinness Book of World Records, as well as the world’s most expensive cupcake, the Golden Phoenix by Bloomsbury’s café in Dubai.

All this week in celebration of International Chocolate Day until Friday, September 23rd, customers at Bella Gelateria Yaletown will be able to enjoy eight specialty chocolate gelato, including a dairy-free sorbetto. Some of the gelato will be featuring chocolate from local chocolatiers like East Van Roasters and XOXOLAT. More information will be announced through Instagram and Twitter under ‘@bellagelateria’.

As an exclusive and a first in North America, Maestro James will be crafting a gelato and a dairy-free sorbetto using Amedei Tuscany’s Porcelana Chocolate, the most expensive chocolate in the world. Each white-glove serving of this exclusive Porcelana chocolate gelato and sorbetto will be decorated with 23-carat edible gold leaf and is available at $50 per serving. Given the delicacy of the Porcelana chocolate, he will only be able to make a limited number of servings per day and is only available through reservations at the Bella Gelateria Yaletown location (1089 Marinaside Crescent, Vancouver). Reservations will open on Thursday, September 15 at noon Vancouver time in person or by phone at 778-737-7890, on a first come first serve basis.

Award winning Maestro James Coleridge was named International Gelato Master of the Year in 2014 by the International Fair of Artisan Gelato (MIG), won the Gelato World Tour North America the same year, and was the double gold winner at the 2012 Florence Italy Gelato Festival. A graduate of Italy’s Carpigiani Gelato University, James considers himself a custodian of the old artisan way of making handcrafted gelato, preserving the technique from the old industrial world. He is constantly experimenting with the finest and freshest in-season ingredients from all around the world.
